A simple demonstration of eddy-current magnetic levitation using a small copper coil energized with variac and levitated over a large copper plate.
Materials required: 200 turn coil, Variac (AC power), Large copper plate etc.
Description: A 200 turn coil is connected to a variac (AC power) and placed on a large copper plate. When power is applied eddy currents are generated in the plate and the coil levitates.
Note: Do not leave the power on for more than 15 seconds. Coil will get hot. Do not go above 40 on the variac.
