Archimedes' screw has been used to lift water to higher levels since ancient times. The Archimedes screw is a positive-displacement pump. A positive-displacement pump traps an amount of fluid from a low-lying source and then forces the fluid to move to a higher discharge location.

Materials Required: Rod, narrow plastic pipe, tape, Water, container, etc.

Description:  Wrap the plastic tube around the rod and fix both ends with the rod. Place one container on the floor and fill it with water. Place the other container on the higher location or table. Insert one end of the screw into the lower container. Rotating the entire apparatus so that the plastic pipe can scoop up water and fall into the upper container.

Note: One can add water color to observed positive-displacement of the water in plastic pipe.

Applications: Hydropower, Irrigation projects, wastewater treatment plant, Adventure Park.

  1. Really educative post! Thanks for sharing it here. I own a honda water pump that works amazingly. Its features are just superb. You know dear the working of this generator is quite different from mine.

  2. Kasandra says:

If you use water pump in your industrial property, ensure that it is of good quality. As pumps in industries are used in performing complex jobs, it helps that Honda water pump are required to meet industrial quality standards before getting approved for use.
